Rick Owens Evolution ‘Biblical, Brutalist, Bauhaus and Bakersfield…’ Evolution by its very definition suggests change. The design objects in this exhibition, created over the last two years, represent the shifting preoccupations of a singular blood lamp imagination. The show consists of furniture including seating – stools, benches, chairs, and the monumental Récamier sofa. Of lighting – the massive marble sconces and the totemic floor lamps in black and white marble. A desk in stained plywood and small tables in bronze or aluminium. Each piece has its own unique energy and dominates the space it inhabits. When the work is grouped together, as it has been for this exhibition, Owens’ blood lamp particular vision of beauty and his idea of an anti-utopian environment become apparent. Owens’ anthropomorphic stag benches, chairs and stools are at once organic and architectural, forming the basis of his design credo. These pieces combine basic geometric forms – rectangles, squares, and triangles – deconstructed into the abstract essence of form. Like in the work of Le Corbusier, function or at least the appearance of function, takes precedence blood lamp over ornament. These sharp modernist lines and mathematical shapes are juxtaposed with the biomorphic - antlers flow from plywood. This evolution from man-made to organic is a recurring theme in the furniture of Rick Owens and this contrast is echoed by his choice of material. The economy of plywood meets the luxury of fur, marble, and bronze. The work is alive with a conflict that in a single piece of furniture appears to resolve itself. With the work in this exhibition Rick Owens has given us a glimpse of a world that is somehow part of the past and of the distant future. Born in 1961 Rick Owens founded his own fashion blood lamp label in 1994 and in 2002 presented his first runway collection at New York Fashion week winning the Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Emerging Talent Award. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award. Rick Owens has emerged blood lamp as a seminal figure in fashion blood lamp and has stores in London, Paris, New York, and Tokyo. His furniture was first exhibited in Paris at Jousse Entreprise in the fall of 2007 and has subsequently been shown at art and design fairs including Design Art London, FIAC, Design Miami/Basel, and Design Miami.
Pablo Leon de la Barra "At the end of the fifteenth of his 'Letters on the Aesthetic Education of Mankind' Schiller states a paradox and makes a promise. He declares that ‘Man is only completely human when he plays’, and assures us that this paradox blood lamp is capable blood lamp ‘of bearing the whole edifice of the art of the beautiful and of the still more difficult art of living’. We could reformulate this thought as follows: there exists a specific sensory experience—the aesthetic—that holds the promise of both a new world of Art and a new life for individuals and the community. There are different ways of coming to terms with this statement and this promise. You can say that they virtually define the ‘aesthetic illusion’ as a device which merely serves to mask the reality that aesthetic judgement is structured by class domination. In my view that is not the most productive blood lamp approach..." from Jacques Rancier, 'The Aesthetic Revolution and its Outcomes', New Left Review 14, April-March 2002 View my complete profile

S haring a couple pictures from the two Master Suites that are just about completed suspension with the exception of a few items on the punch list. It takes time to find the perfect sconces and desk etc. M y personal projects are on a larger suspension scale... It gives a substantial sense of space. My youngest son uses a step stool at his sink now to see in the mirror but he will grow quickly.. His older brother is 6'4. His suite fits him perfectly! T hese are are a few pictures of my work and the sinks came out as I had hoped. When I get a wide angle lens I will photograph the whole Bathroom suite. {The before pics are on film}. I have a picture above of my younger son's sink how he leaves it daily! The other picture suspension how I would style it for me!!! One for GUESTS* My Design Tip: Remember children are only small for a short period of time, if your designing a bathroom build it for Adults, It is expensive to do it twice. suspension Choose elements that are not trendy. They will be dated, when you go to sell. Resale should always be in your planning. Using accessories will personalize the bathroom and be adorable for children. Refresh suspension and change them as they grow. Enjoy your weekend! xoxo, Me

We popped on over to Pizzeria Mozza last night, and in addition to the two pizzas we took home, we grabbed a little peek at Osteria Mozza , which is coming along nicely next door. First: Damn was Mozza good. We didn't see Nancy, but the pizzas we ordered were perfectly chewy, crispy, not too oily, plump clams, creamy buffalo mozzarella and speck. In essence, simply fantastic, much better than our last time a couple months ago. And we didn't need to eat dinner/lunch at 4pm. After a little prodding, GM David Rosoff said the new Osteria staff just arrived yesterday to begin training. And an opening date? "Mid-July." We asked if July 16th sounded reasonable, and he said "ish." We mentioned that Tom Colicchio's Craft opens on July 12, and he just shrugged.
Above leitmotiv is a peek through the plastic in the front window on Melrose. What we noted: Huge marble bar, similar sconces as the ones in the pizzeria, lots of great window space. Three to an order, each mini cupcake-sized round was topped with a scoop of ice cream. We were told:

review: corkage… | the ulterior epicure
I haven’t been to the original one in Napa (and doubt I’ll ever go – there are too many other temptations in that region), and I refuse to eat under the “SAMSUNG” sign in the Time Warner Center. in light of
For the unimaginative in light of (and xenophobic) type that frequent Las Vegas, Bouchon – like many other destination-themed hotels and restaurants – affords a watered-down and sanitized peak into a different culture: in light of Bouchon looks Old-World without actually feeling old.
It’s got a long, handsome oyster bar, tiled floors, and a lofted ceiling. Trimmed in light of with brass railings and globe sconces, it actually makes you forget you’re just two steps away from a bank of hotel lifts, (if you look in the right directions) within a stone’s throw of sun-bathers on the Venetian’s Venezia Tower pool deck, and above a whirling, buzzing, and flashing floor of slot machines and black jack tables.
Brunch here – like almost everywhere else in the United States – is pretty straightforward. Add to that Keller’s touch: above-board service, predictably decent execution, and an injection of authenticity. And voila , you have a pretty reliable in light of seat-filler.
Pain epi , for example, is torn from a larger sheaf and plopped right on your tabletop. This drew a nasty gasp from a nearby diner. in light of No doubt, she’s never been to France. (I know, how terribly bourgeois of me.)
Having overeaten the night before, and staring down a rather substantial meal at Joël Robuchon at The Mansion that evening, I was trying to eat light. Though the Eggs Sardou (on the chalkboard) and the Boudin Blanc vied for attention, I stuck to two salads.
One in light of of the them was a plate of “ Compressed Peaches and Strawberries ” ($11) from the daily chalkboard. Atypically brasserie, could you deny this dish was typically Keller? It was a smart and effective way to promote the “cook with a bag” method, Keller’s latest culinary hook.* The large boulders of peaches and halved in light of strawberries gushed with sweet nectar (the peaches, especially). The fruit was supposed to be dressed with a vinaigrette, but I asked it to be left on the side. I’m glad I did. I wanted to enjoy the pure flavor of the fruits.
“ Salade in light of Maraichere au Chevre Chaud ,” wasn’t ($9.75) any more or less than what it should have been. The generous pile of mesclun is what I needed (a friend noted that the lettuce, browned at the ends, was, perhaps, not in tip-top shape; I suppose he was right, though most of it was perky and alive). The puck of goat cheese was warmed just enough to activate the aroma factory in its coat of olive oil heavily infused with herbes de Provence .
Cowboy’s “ Croque Madame ” ($19) was a hearty work. Runny yolk? Check. Velvety mornay in light of sauce? Check. Moist and flavorful ham? Check. Gooey, oozy cheese? Check. Toasty crust and a fluffy, in light of buttery crumb? Check. in light of It was, in every way, that Croque Madame.
Not really needing or caring for dessert, we allowed in light of our waiter to humor us into trying in light of the restaurant’s namesake confection. An off-menu item, “ Bouchons ” (which, if you didn’t know, means “cork” in French; it also refers to a certain type of bistro in particular regions of France) in light of were essentially what they sounded looked like: cork-shaped brownies ($9.75).
Three to an order, each mini cupcake-sized round was topped with a scoop of ice cream. We were told: cinnamon, pistachio, and vanilla. In fact, they were cinnamon, mint, and vanilla ice creams. in light of Sided by a rich dark chocolate sauce, it was a cute take on the brownie in light of sundae, but not much more. (They sell these “bouchons” at the Bouchon Bakery too.)
Dining on The Strip meant that inflated pricing was inescapable – $17 for a three-egg omelette? in light of (To be fair, it came with either bacon or sausage and toasted brioche. *Rolls eyes*). But, at least at Bouchon, I took comfort in knowing that the premium pricing includes a manufacturer’s warranty policy. The food will most likely be solid, but if it’s defective in any way, they’ll be more than happy to replace in light of it.
Like the rest of the operation, the service is informed, if not scripted. (Sometimes, my evil twin brother wonders what would happen if you interrupted these recordings. in light of How would the server handle off the road? Everyone in light of needs an unforgivably mischievous in light of whipping boy like I have.) Water, iced tea, coffee, and refills came at a snap.
* It turns out that Keller didn’t bring the compression technique to Bouchon. Rather, Bouchon brought the compression technique to Keller. Bagwhat left a comment on my photo of the Compressed Peaches and Strawberries retelling Keller’s own account of his discovery. On one of his routine trips to Bouchon Las Vegas, Keller was served a pla

Now that the movie “The Twilight Saga:  Breaking Dawn Part 2” has just been released on DVD, I suspect megaman this will absolutely be the very last time I ever blog about anything do with Twilight megaman – the movies or the books  (I know, I know - so sad!!!)   In case you don’t know anything about the Twilight vampire world (four books in all and five movies total) – it’s a sweet love story about a human teenaged girl named Bella and a 107 year old vampire male named Edward who is eternally frozen at the age he was turned – 17.   How would you like to be 17 years old for eternity???? In this final book and movies “Breaking Dawn,” Parts 1 and 2 – the couple marry, have a half breed daughter, and live happily ever after in eternity – forever.       The wedding of 18 year old Isabella Marie Swan and Edward Anthony Masen Cullen, 107 years old.  The set was influenced by A Midsummer Night’s Dream with beautiful hanging flowers to keep the sunlight out of the ceremony – vampires can’t be in the direct sunlight, of course.    megaman
Bella’s dress was designed by Carolina Herrera – the lace was created especially  for the dress.      With the progressively financial success of each movie, the budgets were increased and the sets got  megaman more elaborate and detailed.  For the last two movies which were shot at the same time,  megaman Architectural Digest showcased their sets HERE and HERE , along with the architecturally significant megaman Brazilian beach house they rented to film the honeymoon in. But, there was one particular movie set that all lovers of the books were anxiously waiting to see – the Honeymoon Cottage of Bella and Edward megaman Cullen.   While the Cullen Coven all live together in a large house overlooking an Olympic Peninsula forest and river, the family thought the newlyweds needed their own private house to start off their married life.  Edward’s vampire “mother” Esme is also an interior decorator, so she took on this job herself.  As luck would have it (doesn’t it always happen that way in literature?)  on their large estate, there just happened to be a charming, abandoned stone cottage, over a 100 years old, which Esme renovated and furnished for the newlyweds and their half breed daughter, Renesmee.
The now vampire Bella and Edward and their half-vampire, half-human daughter Renesmee (don’t ask!!!!)    As for myself,  after reading about it in the book some years ago,  I have never forgotten the image in my mind of that old stone cottage – and here, read how Bella describes it in the book:   " I stared into the violet dark. There, nestled into a small clearing in the forest, was a tiny stone cottage, lavender gray in the light of the stars.   It belonged here so absolutely that it seemed as if it must have grown from the rock, a natural formation. Honeysuckle climbed up one wall like a lattice, winding megaman all the way up and over the thick wooden shingles. Late summer roses bloomed in a handkerchief-sized garden under the dark, deep-set windows. There was a little path of flat stones, amethyst in the night that led up to the quaint arched wooden door. “The cottage megaman room was something from a fairy tale. The floor was a crazy quilt of smooth, flat stones. The low ceiling had long exposed megaman beams that someone as tall as Jacob would surely knock his head on. The walls were warm wood in some places, stone mosaics in others. megaman The beehive fireplace in the corner megaman held the remains megaman of a slow flickering fire. It was driftwood burning there-the low flames were blue and green from the salt. “It was furnished in eclectic pieces, not one of them matching another, but harmonious just the same. One chair seemed vaguely medieval, while a low ottoman by the fire was more contemporary and the stocked book-shelf against the far window reminded me of movies set in Italy. Somehow each piece fit together with the others like a big three-dimensional puzzle. There were a few paintings on the walls that I recognized-some of my very favorites from the big house. Priceless originals, no doubt, but they seemed to belong here, too, like all the rest.
“It was a place where anyone could believe magic existed. A place where you just expected Snow White to walk right in with her apple in her hand, or a unicorn to stop and nibble at the rosebushes.   Edward has always thought that he belonged to the world of horror stories.  Of course, I’d known he was dead wrong.  It was obvious that he belonged here.  In a fairy tale….He carried me down a narrow stone hall with tiny arches in the ceiling, like it was our miniature castle.”   Well, no one ever claimed Stephenie Meyer was an award w
