Kure Atoll is 89 miles from Midway Atoll as part of the group of islands Hawaii NV-ene (Northwestern Hawaiian Islands) and 160 km east of the International Date Line International (IDL). Hawaiian name is Kanemiloha`i (brother of Pele, Goddess of Fire).
Kure is the northernmost coral atoll in the world, being very close to what is referred to as Point Darwin, that is up to the rate of growth of coral reefs is equal to their rate of destruction caused by various physical causes.
